Svart Guld.
Kurator Nils Claesson, Stockholm, har i samarbeide med TEKS og Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst blitt tildelt kr. 50.000,- fra Norsk kulturråd til forprosjekt for utstillingsprosjektet Svart Guld i 2004/2005 med tanke på å problemstille Norges rolle som oljeprodusent.

WORKSHOP I MAX/MSP/JITTER.
Mandag 28.04. – fredag 02.05, dagtid uke 18, er det workshop/grunnkurs på TEKS i MAX/MSP/JITTER. MAX er et programmerings språk som egner seg for sanntids lyd og video interaksjon. JITTER er et program som bruker MAX for behandling av 2D og 3D grafikk. Se under for nærmere presentasjon.
Kurset holdes på engelsk av Peter Votava, kunstner bosatt i Wien, og som spesialist i MAX/MSP/JITTER underviser han på Kunstakademiet i samme by.

Programming with MAX/JITTER for visual projects.
MAX is a programming language suitable for artistic purposes like realtime sound and visual environments, interactive sound/video/network based art and realtime 3D works.
With it´s easy to learn graphic interface for writing the code it is much easier and faster to learn and work with than most other languages and for this it´s suitable for writing software for single tasks in a day but also allows to build complex environments for controlling virtually any mix of electronic media.
Originally coming from the fields of midi controlled music MAX expanded into digital audio signal processing with it´s MSP addition when Mac´s became fast enough to handle all the audio processing themselves.
In 2002 cycling74, the vendor of MAX, released JITTER, a set of objects that enable MAX/MSP to handle any kind of matrix-organised data and optimised but not limited to videomaterial coming from any source. It also includes drawing processes and supports OpenGL based 3D material. Jitter is fully integrated in MAX/MSP allowing any imaginable flow and interactions of data between the worlds of sounds and visuals.
currently MAX/MSP/JITTER consists of 500+ objects (functions) with another 500+ free 3rd party objects available for download on the net.

About the workshop:
Starting with examples of often needed functionalities we will go through the three fields of image generation/manipulation with MAX: algorithmbased moving graphics, working with movies, and OpenGL based 3D works by creating some basic patches.
We will then discuss the concepts of MAX and JITTER on a general level and also dig deeper into various programming techniques for solving complex projects.
At the end of the workshop the attendies should have the knowledge to be able to continue their work independently and a pool of examples/prototypes as basis for future developments.

Teacher: peter votava. musician and artist living in vienna, austria.
Working under the pseudonym “pure” he started producing electronic music in 1991 under the influence of the then innovative energy of techno releasing more than 20 vinyl records. Fading to more abstract music around 97 also his way of production changed from vintage analogue gear to software based techniques.
By switching to MAX/MSP more than 4 years ago he started with creating his own instruments for studio production, live shows, and as integrated parts of bigger projects like A SOPHISTICATED SOIREE.
Most of the material he released since 1999 on labels like MEGO(A), STAALPLAAT(NL) and his own label DOC heavily depends on MAX/MSP based works.

Various audio visual environments based on MAX/MSP and its additions will be exhibited in 2003.
He is invited to a workshop in Rennes (France) in march and in Trondheim (Norway) end of april.
He is booked for shows in berlin, hamburg, helsinki, turku, stockholm, belgrade, vilnius in the first half of this year.
He is teaching MAX/MSP/JITTER at the University of Applied Arts in vienna.

INTERFERENS.
TEKS presenterer utstillingen INTERFERENS!
Trondheim Elektroniske Kunstsenter har til hensikt gjennom ulike utstillingsprosjekter å synliggjøre de tverrkunstnerlige og tverrfaglige prosessene og prosjektene som deler av samtidskunsten er opptatt og avhengig av. Som ledd i denne prosjektserien presenteres utstillingen INTERFERENS i lokalene til Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst i perioden 3. – 13. april.
Studenter fra kunstakademiene i Trondheim og Bergen stiller ut sammen i Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst. Utstillingen som har fått tittelen “Interferens”, åpner torsdag 03.04 med vernissage mellom kl 19-21. Utstillingen er åpen hver dag unntatt mandag til og med søndag 13.4.
Ulike uttrykk og teknikker møter hverandre og påvirker hverandre gjensidig: Maleriet influeres av både foto og video, video påvirkes av maleriets krav til komposisjon og ulike genre innen film og medier. Både arkitektur og populærkultur spiller med i det kunstneriske arbeidet , mens lydarbeider inngår som et eget uttrykk i gallerirommet. Dokumentære arbeidsmåter opptrer som forutsetninger og tema for fiksjon
Slik er samtidskunsten i dag, og dette gjenspeiles i en kunstundervisning som legger vekt på tverrfaglighet og åpenhet mellom ulike former for kunstnerisk praksis. Kunstakademiet i Trondheim og Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen avd. Kunstakademiet innledet i fjor (USF, Bergen 2002) med dette et prosjekt hvor utveksling og samarbeid er et viktig element.
Det deltar tilsammen 10 studenter.
