Both art and religion consist of strategies for erecting, buttressing and transgressing boundaries. Through the “excremental vision” of Jonathan Swift and Gary Lease, I will examine some transgressions of society in the interface between art and religion. I hope to engage in discussion of the hows and whys of avantgarde aesthetics and ideology and the possible validity of actually restating the limit. Shit matters.
Jesper Aagaard Petersen is a research fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He is a frequent speaker at Forum Nidrosiae, latest with a talk on zombies, but he makes his salary analyzing religion and other cultural products.
