SUMMARY:HISS | Magdaléna Manderlová
DESCRIPTION:HISS er en installasjon først produsert som bestillingsverk for gruppeutstillingen “The Earth / Current Way of Living” i 2019 i Galerie Emila Filly\, Ústí nad Labem i Tsjekkia.\n \nInstallasjonen er basert på en ekskursjon Manderlová gjorde til Nord-Böhmer-regionen samme år. Begrenset plass. Påmelding til teks@teks.email.\n \n—\n \nHISS er tidligere vist på “Sound Occupations”\, STIFF Film Festival\, Rijeka\, Kroatia (2020)\, “EARTH / The Current Way of Living” i Galerie Emila Filly\, Ustinad Labem\, Tsjekkia (2019). HISS (tekst) ble publisert på nytt på SOUNDEST nummer 6 (2020) og Fusion Journal\, Listening in the Anthropocene edition (2021).\n \nHISS er støttet av Norsk kulturråd og Fond for lyd og bilde.\n \n\nHISS is an installation first produced as a commissioned artwork for the group exhibition “The Earth / Current Way of Living” in 2019 at Galerie Emila Filly\, Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic.\n \nThe installation is based on an excursion Manderlová made to the North Bohemian region the same year. The region contains a major coal mining field\, and the traces of mining and extractivism have permeated the landscape over the last couple of centuries.\n \nDuring one week\, Manderlová engaged with this landscape by walking over 100 km while listening to the surroundings. Her aim was to feel – and to meet – the landscape\, to absorb its natural and cultural stories while widening her sonic imagination.\n \nThe areas she investigated are abandoned and off the beaten track\, often situated in-between the extraction sites and populated areas. In this installation\, which consists of a sound essay and a printed artist book\, Manderlová invites the audience to feel and explore these spaces.\n \n—\n \nSOUND WALKS IN TRONDHEIM\nAs part of the exhibition\, Manderlová leads two sound walks\, on October 31 and November 8. Both contain group listening exercises where participants gain insight into different methods and concepts for listening to the environment. Free participation. Registration at teks@teks.email.\n \nEXCURSION TO LØKKEN VERK\nOn November 21\, Manderlová will guide an excursion to Løkken Verk (Orkla Industrimuseum\, www.oi.no)\, where HISS will be performed inside the old copper mine. Free participation including shared bus to Løkken Verk. Limited space. Registration at teks@teks.email.\n \n—\n \nHISS has previously been shown at “Sound Occupations” at STIFF Film Festival\, Rijeka\, Croatia (2020)\, “EARTH / The Current Way of Living” at Galerie Emila Filly\, Usti nad Labem\, Czech Republic (2019). HISS (sound) was broadcasted on RUMMUR radio (2020)\, Radio Space by Borealis festival for experimental music (2020) and Girlmonster! on Radio Primavera Sound (2019). HISS (text) was republished on SOUNDEST issue 6 (2020) and Fusion Journal\, Listening in the Anthropocene edition (2021).\n \nHISS is supported by Arts Council Norway and the Fund for Sound and Vision.\n \n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto: Gard Aukrust \nMagdaléna Manderlová (f.1991 i Tsjekkia) er en kunstner med base i Trondheim\, Norge. Arbeidene hennes tar ofte form som stedsspesifikke lydinstallasjoner eller lyd-essays som er sammensatt av feltopptak\, poetisk tekst\, refleksjoner og musikk.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMagdaléna Manderlová (b.1991 in the Czech Republic) is an artist based in Trondheim\, Norway. SUMMARY:THE AGREEMENT | Eirik Havnes
\n \n—–\nEnglish\n \nSound installation\n \n\nTHE AGREEMENT is a part of Havnes’ series of feedback themed installations\, where every installation uses feedback both as a sound source and as a representation of different processes in the world around us. This time he looks at the echo chamber\, and how we change our views and attitudes based on who we are talking to\, or how we through social media often are just presented views that algorithms already know we agree with. Every saw blade is mounted with a contect speaker and contact microphone\, closing a feedback circle that makes the blade vibrate with it’s own resonance frequency\, but when several of these saw blades are connected in different constellations\, in different “conversations”\, they will always try to find frequencies they all inhibit\, that they all can agree on. \n\n\n \n\n—–\n\nEirik Havnes (b.1989) is an artist\, composer\, musician and poet from Ålesund\, with a background from Music Technology at NTNU in Trondheim.\n\n\n \nHe focuses on producing sound on the fringe of genres and technical barriers\, with a playful approach to conceptuality and perception. Feedback has been in the centre of his works for a long time\, both as a concept and as a sound source; incorporating both into his installations and musical works. The same can be said about his use of sonification; the art of translating data or concepts into sound\, to give the audience a different and auditive perspective on the subject in matter. Havnes have exhibited in arenas such as Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst\, Bomuldsfabriken\, Heimdal Kunstforening\, Høstscena\, Lydgalleriet\, Meta.Morf (2014) and have released a number of records. Most recently\, he has been the subject of the documentary Polyfonatura (2019)\, where director Jon Vatne has been following Havnes over the course of 4 years\, while he is composing a cinematic score solely based on field recordings.\n\nPhoto: Odin Jæger\, VG

SUMMARY:Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild / Group exhibition
DESCRIPTION:DIGITAL WILD\nMeta.Morf X – Digital Wild exhibition \nGROUP EXHIBITION / TRONDHEIM KUNSTMUSEUM – GRÅMØLNA\, March 5 – May 3\, 2020 \nANNA DUMITRIU\, ALEX MAY / DANIEL SLÅTTNES / DISNOVATION.ORG / HIROKI YOKOYAMA / KELLY RICHARDSON / KYRIAKI GONI / LORENZO OGGIANO / LOUIS FREHRING / MARIA SMIGIELSKA\, PIERRE CUTELLIC / NORWEGIAN MEDIA ART LIBRARY / RALF BAECKER / SANDRINE DEUMIER / UNIVERSAL EVERYTHING \n— \nToday\, about sixty years into the digital revolution\, a substantial share of our society is fully digitized. The digital domain has come to be our new habitat\, seamlessly intertwined with ourselves and our surrounding nature. \nThe undergrowth of new technologies and their practical implementations is immense. This digital wilderness develops and expands at an exponentially accelerating pace. Our perceptions of life are challenged\, we have become architects of artificial ecologies\, of new and hybrid worlds. \nArtistic and scientific research continuously challenge our perspectives on life with philosophical and existential questions\, and the artist plays as never before a crucial role as conveyor and interpreter of new knowledge and research. \nThe Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild exhibition presents artists that through their practise explore\, study and comment our digital history and future. \nRandom Access Memory is an installation from Ralf Baecker (de) that reflects on the interaction of idea and matter\, and their encounter within contemporary information technology. \nRealness – Intimate Garden by Sandrine Deumier (fr) is a video and VR installation that explores possibilities for a future mutant and hybrid nature. \nDisnovation.org (fr/pl) casts a critical view at unfettered technological innovation through the mixed media installation Shanzhai Archeology. The installation presents an extraordinary collection of mobile phones made in China as counterfeit consumer goods. These are hybrid products developed at an incredible speed\, merging piracy\, reverse engineering\, unique creativity and self-taught skills. \nLouis Frehring (fr) presents Singing Birds\, a sound installation with computer-generated birdsongs that imitates the ornithological soundscapes found in the vicinity of Trondheim. \nIn her video and internet installation Eternal U Inc.\, Kyriaki Goni (gr) explores a future business model for preserving the memories and experiences of our lost loved ones. \nIn their mixed media installation\, ArchaeaBot\, Anna Dumitriu (uk) and Alex May (uk) present a post singularity and post climate change life-form\, the ‘ultimate’ species for the end of the world as we know it. \nIn his 3D objects\, videos and digital prints; Soft bodies\, Environmental monitoring system and Quasi-objects\, Lorenzo Oggiano (it) explores synthetic based systems with processual activities conceived in a world of its own. \nDaniel Slåttnes (no) has since 2015 investigated possibilities for human-plant communication. Plant Cyborg\, consists of six plants (P. Obtusifolia) where each plant is mounted onto a mechanical device which\, based on the output from the plant’s own electrical signals\, allow them to move freely around. \nIn her video installation Orion Tide\, Kelly Richardson (ca)\, teleports us to an undefined planet surface where we observe a phenomena of sudden eruptions of light and smoke we are not given an explanation of. Natural phenomena? Missiles? Rockets? Escape pods? A mass exodus of humanity? \nProteus 2.0 by Maria Smigielska (ch/pl) and Pierre Cutellic (ch/fr)\, is the second version in a series of experiments on modulating matter with the help of combined human and machine intelligence. The installation makes use of ferrofluid\, which through its magnetism constantly changes its shape based on electrical signals  from human brain activity. \nIn his video installation\, Scenes from Daily Life\, Hiroki Yokoyama (jp) presents us for a future in which humanoid robots blend into our daily lives including possible quirks and failures that may follow. \nFuture You is an interactive video installation from Universal Everything (uk) that playfully presents us for a unique reflection of the audience’s potential\, synthetic self. Starting as a primitive form\, it learns from your movements to adapt\, suggesting an agile\, superior version of you. \nThe Norwegian Media Art Library (Norsk Mediakunstbibliotek) by TEKS\, curator: Zane Cerpina\, is a collection of printed publications covering the Norwegian media art field. The library represents the most comprehensive documentation of media arts in Norway\, both in terms of history\, artistic activity\, artists\, and general developments within the field. Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild presents the third edition. \nEspen Gangvik\nFebruary 2020 \n—————————————-\n \nNORSK \nDEN DIGITALE VILLMARKEN\nMeta. \nEspen Gangvik\nFebruar 2020

SUMMARY:Christian Blom
DESCRIPTION:al-Khowarizmis Mekaniske Orkester / Lyd- og skulpturinstallasjon / Christian Blom\, 2014 \nTreverk\, svart stål\, hesjestreng\, gitarstreng\, kobbertråd\, gummistrikk\, blikkboks\, fiskesene\, hyssing\, sytråd\, blylodd\, bjelle\, fløyte\, belg\, lys\, elektronikk\, programvare og datamaskin. \nChristian Blom mottok Spellemannsprisen 2017 i kategori Samtid for al-Khowarizmis Mekaniske Orkester. \n— \nEN \nal-Khowarizmis Mechanical Orchestra / Sound and sculpture installation / Christian Blom\, 2014 \nThere is a small  button lit by a diode. It´s mounted on an arm that sticks out of the installation. This interface reminds one of something from a technical museum and a start button for a model railway. When the diode is lit the audience can press the button to start al-Khowarizmis Mekaniske Orkester to play a suggestion for music\, as if to say\, this can also be music\, or\, here’s a way to organize light\, sound and movement in a musical fashion. \nThe automated composer\, the software\, is constructed like a collection of dice\, metronomes and grids. By pushing the button you roll the dice which sets the framework for what the music can be by numerating the fringes of the musics parameters. The mesh size of the grid is decided on and the metronomes start. The tempo is to be between 50 and 70\, 30 percent of the beats are let through the grid and distribute themselves among three instruments in two layers. You get a brittle music\, long intervals of silence and maybe a string or the flute has chosen longer notes\, in which case you’d get a line against a background of points\, a musical archetype. As an alternative the music falls apart. The intervals become too long\, the tempo slow down and eventually the points fail to connect. Other times all the instruments fall into one layer\, and perform what they think of as a unison. This almost unison is a batter of will to be precise which unfortunately\, and efficiently\, is stopped by mechanical joints\, friction and the special challenges of the physical world – gravity and all sorts of resistance one has to put up with. But it can be a unison music in the listeners head. If you understand where the music wants to go and add what’s missing. Then you are gluing it together and creating a steady\, limp trot. \nIt’s in the grey areas among possible musical suggestions that this work can become interesting. al-Khowarizmis at its best present possible connections where the listener can weave his or her own music from the available threads. A point of departure where music is something the listener creates by actively structuring  the sounds into a sonic matter through the sheer force of listening. In its utmost consequence this does away with the composer. The statement is polemic\, but not without a shred of truth. And this shred is the basis for al-Khowarizmis Mekaniske Orkester’s music. \nChristian Blom is currently serving as the Director at Notam\, the Norwegian center for technology\, arts and music. Blom recently completed a degree in artistic research on the topic of transmedial composition. In recent years he has received both an Edvard award and a Spellemann  award. \nAs an artist Blom works in music composition\, installation art and performance\, as a solo artist and in collectives. He has received commissions from NRK\, Bit20-ensemble\, asamisimasa\, Ensemble Ernst\, Ellen Ugelvik\,  Eir Inderhaug\, NUSO\, NOTAM and Ny Musikk amongst others. SUMMARY:Gunhild Mathea Olaussen
DESCRIPTION:Gunhild Mathea Olaussens installasjon «Interferens» tar utgangspunkt i interferens og svevninger i vårt menneskelige sanseapparat\, som fenomen\, metode og kunstnerisk tematikk. \n\nInterference \nA meeting\, a change of paths.\nA polyphony of voices\, creating a New.\nNew patterns\, new coexistences\, new forms.\nSomething obvious\, something fragile.\nSomething barely noticeable. \nI am interested in this micro perspective\, this is where offset happens.\nThis is where we ought to listen. \nAn assemblage of soft forces\, barely visible dissonances.\nA resonance of coexistence.\nA growth. \n\nGunhild Mathea Olaussen (NO) is an interdisciplinary artist\, specialized in scenography and sound art. Her recent work explores somatic perception through soundscapes\, where space\, material\, body and time are treated as equal parts of the composition. Her work is driven by her interest in tactility\, embodied experience and dramaturgical sociology. She is currently an artistic research fellow at the Norwegian Theatre Academy\, working on her project entitled Responsive Space. \nOlaussen’s diverse works in scenography\, music and installations have been exhibited in galleries\, site-specific areas\, public areas and at theatre/dance/musical venues in Norway\, Europe\, Asia and the US over the last ten years. The works include solo work\, self – initiated projects\, curated and commissioned work\, and collaborations with a number of artists. Amongst others\, she has been collaborating with Ingvild Langgård on the musical project Phaedra who have received great reviews in publications such as The Wire and Uncut\, and Fiksdal/Langgård/Becker on the award-winning dance performance Night Tripper (2012)\, which has toured Europe and the US the last five years. \nOlaussen holds a BA in Aesthetics and Art from the University of Oslo\, and a BA in Scenography from The Norwegian Film School/ Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She has also studied Theatre Design at Rose Bruford College (London) and Romerike folkehøgskole in Norway. In 2012 she was awarded the Norwegian State´s Working Grant for young artists\, and has later been in the jury for the same grant. Olaussen is currently a member of the board of directors of the Production Network for Electronic Art\, Norway (Pnek)\, and was from 2016 – 2018 a part of the board of directors of Norwegian Scenographers Union (Nsc) .

SUMMARY:Jeremy Welsh / Trond Lossius
\n  \n\n  \nThe Atmospherics is one of the ongoing collaborative projects of Trond Lossius and Jeremy Welsh. Through field recordings they capture unique qualities from different natural landscapes and urban areas. The recorded audio and video material is then filtered\, edited\, modified and mixed to highlight some characters or to mute others. The intention is not to document the sites\, but rather to build a database of audiovisual material that is combined in different ways in their installations\, where each assembly becomes a “temporary place”\, constructed of impulses from different geographical areas. \nSince 2014\, the project has moved from Bergen\, Trondheim\, Arendal\, Førde\, Utne and Campania\, Italy\, where it has been presented in various installations with multi-screen video and multi-channel audio. An earlier version was presented at Heimdal Kunstforening in 2016\, and the last version\, #8\, was conveyed at Gallery Entrée in Bergen early 2019.  \nLossius and Welsh have collaborated in various situations and combinations since 2004. Together with the painter Jon Arne Mogstad\, in the group LMW\, they produced a series of experimental installations that combined sound\, digital images and painting. Lossius and Welsh were also leading the artistic research project “Re: place” at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in 2012-2013. \nThe Atmospherics 9 (A Blue Million Miles) is a customised remix from material from the whole project so far\, and consist of projected and screened video together with a four channel sound installation.  \nThe Atmospherics series is supported by Arts Council Norway\, Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond\, Trondheim municipality\, Bergen municipality and BEK – Bergen center for electronic arts. \nJeremy Welsh (b. 1954\, Gateshead\, UK) lives between Trondheim and Bergen. He works within video\, installation\, photography\, audio and performance. He is a professor of visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim\, NTNU. He was a former professor\, master coordinator and dean at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design (2001-2013)\, and founder and curator at The Film & Video Umbrella\, London (1988-1990). His education is from Nottingham Trent University (1977) Goldsmith’s College\, University of London (1982). His works have been included in several national and international collections\, like the National Museum of Art\, Architecture and Design\, Oslo\, Trondheim Art Museum\, Arts Council Norway\, ZKM Media Center (Karlsruhe) and MacQuarie University Art Collection in Sydney. \njewelsh.blogspot.com \n  \nTrond Lossius (b. 1966\, Bergen) lives between Oslo and Sotra. His projects investigate sound\, place and space\, using sound spatialisation and multichannel audio as an invisible and temporal sculptural medium in works engaging with the site. He has collaborated on a large number of cross-disciplinary projects\, amongst others with the contemporary performance group Verdensteatret. He graduated with a Master degree in Geophysics from the University of Bergen and went on to study music and composition at The Grieg Academy. From 2003-2007 he was a research fellow at Bergen National Academy of the Arts. Lossius is currently Head of Artistic Research and Fellowship Programme at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. He is one of the developers of the software framework Jamoma\, and he has ported Ambisonic Toolkit to a set of plugins for the Reaper DAW. \ntrondlossius.no \n  \nJeremy Welsh & Trond Lossius

SUMMARY:THE IRON RING – Cecilia Jonsson
DESCRIPTION:THE IRON RING | Cecilia Jonsson\, 2013 \nMixed media-installasjon: Imperata cylindrica gress / Jern-artefakter / Video / Bok \nDer ”grønn gruvedrift” sikter mot en generelt mer bærekraftig drift\, utforsker The Iron Ring i stedet hvordan forurensede gruveområder kan brukes til å utvinne metaller fra planteliv rundt gruvene og på samme tid restituere områdene. \n— \nEN \nTHE IRON RING \nMixed media installation: Imperata cylindrica grass / Iron artefacts / Video / Book \nWhile “green mining” aims for a more ecological approach to mining metals\, The Iron Ring explores how contaminated mining grounds may benefit from the mining of metals. For The Iron Ring\, 24 kg of iron-tainted grass was removed from contaminated mining grounds and transformed into a ring of 2 g metallic iron. \nIron is considered very important to life in general and has a lower toxicity than other metals. Extensive or abandoned metal mines and industrial activities have\, however\, caused metal releases into the ecosystem to accelerate and reach toxic levels. So-called iron hyper-accumulating plants are tolerant to inorganic iron and can grow on these degraded grounds. There they extract the metal from the soil to store it in very high concentrations inside their roots\, stems and leaves. The means of “cleaning” the polluted soil however\, is a periodical commitment that relies on human interaction: harvest. The plants’ metal enriched biomass (in other words\, their contaminated biological materials) needs to be removed from the ground before the plants by season wilt and the extracted metal reverts back to the soil. So that after the harvest is removed\, new sprouts can grow to continue the decontamination process. \nThe project elaborates on the possibilities to utilise the cleansing process of the naturalised\, wild growing grass: Imperata cylindrica. An invasive vile weed\, which overlooked tolerance and ability to hyper accumulate iron inside its roots\, stems and leaves are left un-utilised. The Iron Ring proposes to harvest the grass for the purpose of extracting the ore that is inside them. The result is a scenario for iron mining that\, instead of furthering destruction\, could actually contribute to the environmental rehabilitation of abandoned metal mines. \nThe Iron Ring installation takes a visitor through the project’s trials and failures\, in a process of close collaboration with smiths\, scientists\, technicians and farmers met along the way. The installation consists of artefacts and video documentation that reports on the seven chronological steps that were required to create an iron ring out of 24 kg of grass harvested from the acidic river banks of a landscape in Spain severely transformed by opencast mining. \n  \nPhotos: Stina Glømmi & Carina Hesper. Her work is informed by scientific methods and often consists of site-specific\, artistic interpretations of phenomena and processes of nature. The projects are developed as investigations of physical and ideological properties of the raw materials that form the basis of human existence\, from origins deep down in the earth\, to the extraction\, transformation and global exploitation. \nJonsson is interested in how matter and material things can participate in\, influence and mobilize a variety of social processes as well as the elasticity of both materiality and agency when they take different expression in different disciplinary traditions. By coordinating objective research methods with personal subjective experience\, her work fuses biology and history with a materiality that intersects arts\, sciences\, environmental politics\, aesthetics and technology in a contemporary alchemy. \nCecilia Jonsson holds an Master in Fine Art from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design and the Nordic Sound Art Program. Her artistic work has been shown internationally in numerous exhibitions and has received awards such as the COAL Art and Environmental Prize (nominee 2018)\, the Prix Ars Electronica\, Hybrid Art (Honorary Mention 2017)\, Bio Art & Design Awards (Award 2016) and the VIDA 16.0 International Awards (2nd Prize 2014). \nwww.ceciliajonsson.com \nPhoto: Miriam Solvang Dein

SUMMARY:Truls Waagø: Sonor Color [Generativ videoinstallasjon]
DESCRIPTION:SONOR COLORÅpning lørdag 9. mars kl. 18.00 – 20.00.

SUMMARY:Jørgen Larsson: Lyd i visningsrom [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:TEKS.Studio 8. mars 10.00 – 14.00. \nWorkshopen tar utgangspunkt i Jørgen Larssons bok “Håndbok for lydarbeid i visningsrom“. \n\nJørgen Larsson is educated as pianist and sound artist. His works has been shown in galleries in Norway and internationally. Beside of his art practice\, he has started and led two pioneering institutions in Bergen\, BEK (2000) and Lydgalleriet (2007). Through Lydgalleriet he organized more than 40 exhibitions. A technological autodidact\, he assists artists and institutions with development of software and hardware. He composes music for dance performances and films\, and improvises regularly for silent movies. In 2018 his handbook about sound production in exhibition spaces was published. \nContact: j@jorgenlarsson.org

SUMMARY:David Rych: Untitled (Authentic) [Animatronics / AI]
DESCRIPTION:Untitled (Authentic)\nAnimatronic/ interactive sculptural work\, 2018 \nLanguage is how we make sense of the world surrounding us\, organising impressions into concepts and communicating them to others. Any use of a particular word\, or a combination of words\, creates distinctions\, in human and computer languages alike. Visual recognition systems imitate this most basic human interaction with the environment\, by finding corresponding captions for repeating visual impulses. \nAt the same time language is inscribed with ideological meaning and deeply interwoven with identity\, as people are either defined or determine their own belonging in specific terminologies. Now there are many fine nuances within every single language\, connotations and associations evolve and may change the meaning of a word\, render it outdated or non-acceptable\, as societies move forward. Recent concerns about bias in machine learning processes have pointed to unwanted outcomes\, while an increasing number of predictions\, recommendations and decisions\, affecting our everyday lives are ceded to algorithmic processes. \nUntitled (Authentic) consists of an industrial silicone human cast and a pre-trained deep AI model. The system integrates a computer vision system with the ability to automatically recognize the contents of images based on a set of algorithms\, by learning to analyse and classify images from databases first classified by human users – pointing to a more evident reality\, in which the human factor plays a key role to correct bias in databases\, inherent in the language\, which algorithms serve from and thus incorporate the prejudice of their creators. \nThe humanoid is a common trope in Sci-Fi\, often having a gender assigned and associated with either subordination or emancipation. Here presented as both\, a commodity product referencing the assembly line – a lookalike to which human criteria do not apply. Yet\, as an „emancipated object“\, retrained and equipped with a resistive language\, this AI remains within a human logic and language of empowerment to break away from hegemonic power relations. \nFor the conception of “Untitled (Authentic)” David Rych collaborated with Martinus Suijkerbuijk\, artist and concept engineer responsible for the development of the machine learning component. \nUntitled (Authentic) was first exhibited at Galerie Widauer in 2018. \n(Photo: Nikolaus Schletterer / Image rights: Galerie Widauer / David Rych) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Rych *1975 in Innsbruck\, lives and works in Berlin. In his works\, Rych addresses constructions of identity and reality. His installations and films question modes of representation\, while referring to political backgrounds\, the artistic genre and its different variations\, as well as the underlying conditions of artistic productions as such\, which are also made a subject of discussion.\n \nRych studied at the University of Innsbruck (1993-95)\, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (1995-2001) and at the Bezalel University in Jerusalem (1999-2000) and completed a postgraduate course at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (2004-05). Art projects and films of David Rych have been internationally exhibited in museums\, art biennials and media arts festivals\, such as Manifesta and the Berlin Biennale. Since 2014 David Rych has been Professor at the Art Academy in Trondheim (KiT) of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim\, Norway.\n\n\n\n \nhttps://www.ntnu.edu/employees/david.rych\n\n\n\n\nMartinus Suijkerbuijk graduated from the MFA program at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts in 2017. His work is best understood as an experimental practice that connects\, translates and operates across the borders of different media\, artistic genres and disciplines. It is defined by a critical attitude and is ultimately concerned with the relevance of the work of the artist and the role of art today. \n \nOver the years Suijkerbuijk has profited from the potential of alliances\, both with other artists\, but also with machines\, that have manifested themselves in collaborative projects within a triangulation of art\, philosophy\, and technology. \n \nHis background as an automation engineer forms the basis of his elaborate skillset\, but it is through relentless dedication and exercises that he persists to expand his technological repository\, both theoretical and practical\, to create tangible projects that monitor the condition of the human in relation to technology with a special focus on the subject of ‘artificial intelligence’. \n \nStructurally his practice consists of intense working periods with a high production level alternated with a commitment to a rigid autodidactic program of the study of philosophy.\n \nmartinussuijkerbuijk.net

SUMMARY:Meta.Morf Retrospektiv: Erik Olofsen - Public Figures [Videoinstallasjon]
Morf med tema-tittelen New.Brave.World! Kuratorer: Alex Adriaansens & Angelica Schmidt / Co-kurator Espen Gangvik. \n  \nPublic Figures @ Meta.Morf 2010 / Trondheim Kunstmuseum – Gråmølna / Erik Olofsen\, 2007 \n[en] \nVideo installation 2007 \nThe platform of a subway station is turned into a stage uniting public and private matters. The public space\, which we perceive as a hectic\, vibrant and noisy\, is quiesced and suddenly we can perceive minimal gestures and intimate moments\, which are normally not visible to the human eye. \nBy means of a high speed camera and the use of slow motion Olofsen document the impression of a subway station from an arriving train: portrayals\, relations\, reactions. It enables us to receive a very intimate impression of which the protagonists are unaware. Every day life becomes a theater play\, and those who are waiting become actors. \nWhat is it that arouses this feeling of theatricality? Maybe it is the clash of movement and standstill. The moving camera films the more or less frozen characters. By taking a closer look we realize minimal movements\, though: The figures are sculptures and they aren’t. Maybe it is the extended time which also creates a different spatial perception\, a kind of three-dimensionality\, which is normally not part of the medium video. It seems like the figures intersect the room and thereby give it some sort of depth. \nDocumentation and fiction can hardly be separated in this work. On the one hand we are aware of the fact that this scenario is a fragment of every day life. Still\, it holds a surreal moment\, which is created through medial representation and alienation. The platform becomes a stage and those waiting become involuntary actors. However\, it is the medial apparatus which allows us this kind of private insight. Maybe the knowledge about that is the reason why this work develops an eerie moment?  \n– Polina Stroganova for Kasseler Documentarfilm und Videofest – 2007 \nPublic Figures was shown at the very first Meta.Morf in 2010 that had the theme title New.Brave.World!. Curators: Alex Adriaansens & Angelica Schmidt / Co-curator Espen Gangvik.  \nPublic Figures is shot from the first compartment of a subway train with a Phantom Vision high speed camera at 2000 frames per second. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \n\nMeta. Morf – was initiated by TEKS in 2007 and the first biennale was eventually arranged in 2010. Meta.Morf has since then presented more than 250 international artists and researchers in collaboration with a severe number of Trondheim’s arts\, performance and research facilities. \nThe Meta.Morf Retrospective exhibition series will occasionally present past biennale productions as part of our ongoing dissemination program for technology based art. Meta.Morf has amongst other an ambition of conveying art practises that utilise and/ or discuss new technologies and scientific breakthroughs. \n\nErik Olofsen\nArtistic statement. \nI am interested in the mechanisms of cause and effect\, control and being controlled. I try to expose the extent to which our surroundings influence our behavior by creating a balance between abstraction and familiarity; reality is dislocated but restored to unity in the same gesture\, keeping the world at arms length\, yet simultaneously bringing it closer. \nThe core of my work forms spatial constructions of composition and deconstruction; I decompose existing architecture and small-scale models and subsequently reassemble them in a new arrangement.\, often combined with other media such as video\, sculpture\, and photography. The constructions that are created in this process correspond with the surrounding physical space in an alternating and manipulative way: they merge the two-dimensional with three dimensional\, so that the border between space and installation at times is difficult to discern. In achieving distinct spatial installations\, I try to question the tension ratio of artificiality and reality and draw the observer and his perception into this investigation. \nDifferent elements and disciplines are often combined as fragments that work together and reinforce each other. They form points of reference that lead to an overview\, creating a total setup of an associative character. Almost literally\, different perspectives are piled up and intertwine in each other in a folded up space; spaces emerge within other spaces. This folding-up and unfolding would offer the possibility to express some sort of synchronicity\, as a way of visualizing various matters in the same space. Though some facades give an impression of stability\, it seems that in this coming to an overview deliberate deceptions have been brought into action. What we find important or hold to be true can be futile or fragile from another point of view. \nMeaning is generated through an apprehension of structural patterns\, tensions and balances rather than a recording of constituent elements. Reflecting the experiences generated in the installations\, whether it is in works that involve industrial robots\, cityscapes\, surveillance cameras or moving couches\, the viewer becomes an assembler\, an active agent in these investigations. \nErik Olofsen\, 2010 \n  \nFoto: Stephan Ziehen \n(NL\, 1970) Erik Olofsen’s works usually integrate different media such as sculpture\, architectural elements\, video\, photographs and sound. Whether it is in works that involve industrial robots\, cityscapes\, high-speed filming or moving couches\, mental processes and physical experiences are being transferred towards or evoked within the viewer. \nOlofsen is the winner of the prestigious Dutch Prix de Rome with the installation “Remotely Here”\, The Spanish international prize Vidalife with the work “Divine methods / Hidden motives” and The Golden Cube of the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival with the installation “Public Figures”.  \nResidences include the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam\, the Chinese European Art Centre in Xiamen\, IASPIS in Stockholm. \nHis works has been exhibited internationally at i.e. the GEM Museum in Den Haag\, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels\, Tirana Biennial\, ARoS kunstmuseum in Aarhus\, KulturBahnhof in Kassel\, Malmö Konsthal\, Palais de Tokyo in Paris and at the Trondheim international biennale for art and technology – Meta.Morf @ Trondheim Kunstmuseum. \nwww.erikolofsen.com

SUMMARY:Metaverk - Trondheim Open 2018 [Lydinstallasjon]
DESCRIPTION:ARNFINN KILLINGTVEIT  |  ØYVIND BRANDTSEGG\n\n01. – 11. november\, 2018 @ TEKS – Nedre Bakklandet 20C\, Trondheim. Sitter stille i flere minutter? Hva skjer om du synger? Snakker?
