SUMMARY:In Violent Silence Horror is Born
DESCRIPTION:Espen Tversland (Video) m/ Gyrid Nordal Kaldestad (Lyd)\nIn Violent Silence Horror is Born (2025) / Video  \n14. november 2025 – 4. januar 2026 \nIn Violent Silence Horror is Born\nText by Vanina Saracino \nThe era we live in is often referred to as the Anthropocene\, which translates from Greek as the “age of humans”. It is a time when our actions\, our systems\, our debris\, shape the environment with more force than tectonic shifts\, and with more violence than climatic or biological processes\, with consequences that are difficult to predict and even harder to redirect. Espen Tversland’s In violent Silence Horror is Born turns to this condition and reflects on the responsibility humans bear today; essentially\, on what it means to be human. \nFour vertical screens\, arranged in a semi-circle\, enclose the viewer in an embrace that feels at once tender and lethal. Through open-source AI\, Tversland’s personal image archive (private photographs alongside material from earlier works) undergoes perpetual transformation\, evolving through several generations of reuse. Images layer and morph into one another: a painting\, a face\, a body\, a tree branch\, a chair\, a bird; they distort and dissolve\, generating more faces\, more limbs\, more bodies in an endless flux. From these metamorphoses\, figures emerge to perform actions that are fleetingly recognizable (acts of labor\, intimacy\, service\, divination) before spiraling into otherness; uncanny and sometimes monstrous worlds that could and could not come into being.  \nThe haunting sound by Gyrid Nordal Kaldestad emerges as the breath and pulse of a distant human creature. It inhales and exhales at a controlled pace\, regulating through the lungs the blood\, the nerves. When things falter\, we steady our breathing. We tell ourselves that everything will be alright. From this constant breath\, voices echo like sirens; a soothing yet ominous chant\, that may be both an acceptable prophecy and a divine threat. \nThe planet itself is a metabolic machine that digests us all\, and the work operates in parallel as a digestive engine for images. It takes in and expels\, takes in and expels. Like everything else\, it cannot create or destroy\, only transform matter into other matter\, vibrance into other vibrance\, signal into other signal. Across its 48 minutes\, countless human faces appear: suspended\, reflective\, waiting\, sometimes suffering\, sometimes suffocating. Their meaning shifts with our own state as we look. Strange and familiar at once\, they find coherence in contact and severance\, mutation and conjunction. They are open processes\, provisional mirrors: what do you see in them? At times they seem empty\, their bodies caught in a suspended state that is neither life nor death\, but both simultaneously. The tempo slows down: to observe\, to think. These faces never smile. In Tversland’s AI cosmos\, the human is evanescent\, atomized\, bent into impossible positions by labor and fatigue\, increasingly alone. \nThe title draws inspiration from Erland Kiøsterud’s Stillhetens Økologi\, which also reflects on humanity’s place within planetary processes. Kiøsterud observes that nature itself has no moral or ethical intent: when our exploitation of ecosystems undermines the very conditions that sustain us\, this is not wrong or right from nature’s perspective. The system as a whole will recover\, mutate\, regenerate; life will continue its uninterrupted stream\, rebuilding itself from the smallest microbe up to the largest organism\, but humans may not be there to witness it. Everything may be doomed for us. And yet\, everything is going to be alright. \nFoto: Hallvar Bugge Johnsen

SUMMARY:Kunst etter KI (Art After AI)
DESCRIPTION:Kunst etter KI \n— 10 kunstnere uten puls \nGruppeutstilling \nJohanna Andersson & Lars Bergman (SE/Sápmi) / David Clarke (US) / Aria Singh (IN/UK) & Max Thompson (UK) / Yirrkala Dhunba (AU) / David Kim (DE) / Elias Novák (CZ) / Kaelen Varga (CZ) / Sofia Anwarian (IR/FR). \nUtstillingen viser kunstnere først presentert i EE Journal #4: Art After AI (2023). \nArt After AI \n— 10 artists without pulse\nGroup exhibition \nJohanna Andersson and Lars Bergman (SE/Sápmi) / David Clarke (US) / Aria Singh (IN/UK) and Max Thompson (UK) / Yirrkala Dhunba (AU) / David Kim (DE) / Elias Novák (CZ) / Kaelen Varga (CZ) / Sofia Anwarian (IR/FR). \nWhat happens to art after artificial intelligence? How has it changed? Or been made? How will it change as AI evolves? How—and who—will perceive art made by AI? Or any art\, even traditional crafts\, once our vision has been shaped by AI and its tools? What about authenticity? Originality? Crafts and techniques that took artists years to master? Who is the author behind AI-generated images? Or AI co-created works? Can machines share authorship with humans? Is the artist of the future a prompt engineer? \nThese are some of the questions Art After AI asks. At the same time\, the exhibition shows how art has been changed forever. There is no going back. No return to an old way of seeing. You cannot unsee what you have seen through the lens of AI. \nThe exhibition revisits artists first featured in EE Journal #4: Art After AI (2023)\, investigating how their practices have shifted since—and how the line between the artist using AI and the artist made by AI is dissolved.  \nThe eight artworks are striking manifestations of a future full of ruptures\, surprises\, and priceless new experiences. Andersson & Bergman documents an anti-AI protest by Sámi artists. Clarke’s robot companion shows its first AI painting. Singh & Thompson’s AI-generated image shows distorted hands affirming how AI loves those with disabilities. Yirrkala Dhunba paints petri-dishes with DNA mutations to secure indigenous futures under climate collapse. David Kim’s 3D-printed ribcage presents the modified body as armor in future warfare. Novák uses AI to calculate the statistical “average color” and pantone swatch of planetary collapse. Kaelen Varga’s glitch image series sabotages commercial AI systems\, turning dataset corruption into resistance. Sofia Anwarian turns her audience into patients\, held until AI finds a diagnosis — revealing care as captivity. \nThe exhibition is also available online at artafter.ai (01.11.2025 – 31.03.2026) with artist texts\, interviews\, images\, and video essays. \nCurated by Stahl Stenslie and Zane Cerpina\nProduced & financed by TEKS – Trondheim Electronic Arts Centre\nPartner exhibition at The Wrong Biennale 2025 — thewrong.org \n— \nThe exhibition is part of the Art After AI program initiated by TEKS in 2025. It explores the profound impact of AI technologies on contemporary art. The project is a follow-up to the EE Journal’s issue Art After AI published by TEKS.press in spring 2023. The program critically investigates how artificial intelligence is transforming artistic practice\, creative thinking and cultural production. What new forms of expression does AI enable? How does it challenge our understanding of authorship\, originality and the role of the artist? What ethical\, philosophical and political questions arise when AI enters the domain of art creation? \n  \n\nAI Loves Me (2023)\nAria Singh (IN/UK) & Max Thompson (UK) \nSingh’s series Limbless and Limitless\, developed together with UK-based artist Max Thompson\, reclaims AI’s warped renderings of human bodies — missing fingers\, twisted limbs\, fractured forms. Where others see glitch\, Singh and Thompson see affection: a recognition that AI does not erase imperfection but mirrors it back in unexpected ways. AI Loves Me asserts that disabled and non-normative bodies are not rejected by AI but reimagined\, even cherished\, through its errors. The work is both intimate and defiant\, positioning glitch aesthetics as a site of empowerment. By embracing what AI gets “wrong\,” the artists reframe error as a form of solidarity. The series resists ideals of perfection coded into technologies of vision\, instead proposing that brokenness itself can be a site of healing. \nAria Singh and Max Thompson are UK-based artists working collaboratively with AI\, embodiment\, and glitch aesthetics. Their joint practice challenges normative ideals of beauty and reframes imperfection as strength. \nAI-generated image from the series Limbless and Limitless\, where distorted bodies affirm Singh’s and Thomson’s belief that AI loves them and others with disabilities. \n\nIndigenous Genomic Adaptation (2023–)\nYirrkala Dhunba (AU) \nThis speculative bioart installation stages a laboratory of survival. Petri-dish paintings with DNA mutations sit alongside DIY CRISPR sets\, visualizing Indigenous futures re-sequenced under the pressure of climate change. Dhunba combines traditional aesthetics with speculative science\, asking whether adaptation through AI and gene-editing can be a strategy for survival — and who has the authority to decide. The work moves Indigenous art into a frontier space\, refusing static definitions and demanding engagement with biotechnology and ecological collapse. At its core\, the work raises difficult ethical questions: can technology safeguard culture\, or does it inevitably risk its erasure? Dhunba does not offer answers\, but insists that the debate itself must include Indigenous voices — not just as subjects of study\, but as agents of design. \nYirrkala Dhunba is an Indigenous Australian artist whose practice spans painting\, installation\, and bioart. She explores the intersections of cultural knowledge\, survival\, and speculative science. \nPrint of a petri-dish painting with DNA mutations\, speculating on AI and DIY CRISPR as tools to re-sequence Indigenous futures under climate collapse. \n\nAnatomy of Defense (2024–)\nDavid Kim (DE) \nIn Anatomy of Defense\, Kim presents a 3D-printed ribcage mutated into a protective shield for vital organs. The work imagines the human body not as a site of medicine but as a site of militarization\, where biology itself is redesigned as armor. By blending anatomical form with weaponized function\, Kim highlights the growing entanglement of AI\, biotechnology\, and the defense industry. The piece is unsettling\, forcing viewers to confront how survival and violence are becoming fused within the body itself. The work is part of a wider project in which Kim investigates how design logics from warfare migrate into medicine\, architecture\, and everyday life. Anatomy of Defense pushes this logic to its limit\, revealing a body that no longer exists for care\, only for battle. \nDavid Kim is a German 3D artist working across sculpture\, AI\, and digital fabrication. His recent works examine the militarization of the human body through AI-driven biological interventions. \nPhotograph of a 3D-printed ribcage mutated into a shield for vital organs\, exposing the body as armor in modern warfare. \n\nTerminal Beige: The Average Color of Mass Extinction (2024)\nElias Novák (CZ) \nIn Terminal Beige\, AI calculates the statistical “average color” of planetary collapse\, distilling complex climate forecasts into a single neutral Pantone swatch. The result is shockingly banal: an indifferent beige that embodies the flattening of catastrophe into data. Part of the series Extinction Pantones\, this work demonstrates how predictive models can be reduced into aesthetic abstraction\, raising questions about how we visualize — or fail to visualize — the enormity of extinction. By translating disaster into a color chart\, Novák highlights both the power and the failure of data visualization. The work insists that abstraction is never neutral\, and that even the most minimal aesthetic decisions can carry the weight of planetary futures. \nElias Novák is a Czech artist whose practice bridges data science and conceptual art. His Extinction Pantones series transforms climate scenarios into single hues\, treating color as an archive of possible futures. \nPart of the series Extinction Pantones\, this work uses AI to calculate the statistical “average color” of planetary collapse — a neutral pantone swatch for the end of the world. \n\nNoise Poisoning #237 (2025)\nKaelen Varga (HU/NO) \nThis glitch image comes from Varga’s series Noise Poisoning\, where imperceptible adversarial noise is injected into images training AI. These corrupted inputs sabotage commercial AI systems\, creating errors that ripple across outputs. By aestheticizing this act of digital sabotage\, Varga reclaims disruption as a critical artistic strategy. Noise Poisoning #237 is less about image-making than about interference — an art of resistance against smooth automation. The series demonstrates how even small-scale acts of corruption can destabilize massive infrastructures. Varga frames sabotage not as destruction\, but as a form of fragile creation — artworks that exist only in the machine’s moment of failure. \nKaelen Varga is a Hungarian visual artist based in Norway. Their work focuses on dataset corruption\, algorithmic resistance\, and the aesthetics of sabotage. \nGlitch image from Noise Poisoning\, where adversarial noise sabotages commercial AI systems\, turning dataset corruption into resistance. \n\nThe Algorithm Will See You Now (2025)\nSofia Anwarian (IR/FR) \nThis installation transforms the gallery into a clinic where visitors become patients. The AI system refuses to release anyone until it detects a diagnosis\, turning care into captivity. The Algorithm Will See You Now critiques preemptive diagnostics\, predictive health systems\, and the erosion of trust in medicine under algorithmic control. Visitors experience both the claustrophobia of waiting for approval and the realization that in such systems\, no one is ever truly healthy. The work confronts a healthcare future where authority shifts from doctors to algorithms\, and care becomes indistinguishable from control. By forcing audiences into the role of captive patients\, Anwarian dramatizes the anxiety of living under predictive systems. \nSofia Anwarian is an Iranian-French artist working at the intersection of performance\, installation\, and critical design. Her projects interrogate healthcare\, surveillance\, and algorithmic authority.  \n  \nExhibition view: a clinical installation where visitors become patients\, held until AI finds a diagnosis — revealing care as captivity. \n\nAI Is Not Indigenous (2024)\nJohanna Andersson & Lars Bergman (SE/Sápmi) \nAI Is Not Indigenous transforms protest into a sustained artistic practice\, confronting algorithmic appropriation and cultural erasure. Their slogans — bold declarations carried into the streets — insist that belonging\, ancestry\, and resistance cannot be automated. By turning protest signs into artworks\, Andersson & Bergman expose how datasets scrape Indigenous forms while stripping away meaning. The work refuses to let culture be reduced to patterns\, asserting protest as both resistance and creation. Their protest is not only a reaction to AI but part of a much longer history of colonial extraction\, where Indigenous knowledge has repeatedly been commodified without consent. In the context of today’s dataset economies\, the work insists that political resistance itself must be recognized as an art form. \nJohanna Andersson and Lars Bergman are Sámi artists and activists whose collaborative practice merges art and protest. They live and work between northern Sweden and broader Sápmi\, addressing cultural appropriation\, land rights\, and algorithmic colonialism. \nPhotograph from an anti-AI protest by Sámi artists in Stockholm. \n\nI Am You Now (2023)\nDavid Clarke (US) \nThis is the first painting created by Clarke’s AI robot companion\, trained on his complete body of work and programmed to continue his practice after his death. In this collaboration with his “machine-double\,” Clarke reframes questions of legacy\, authorship\, and originality. If an AI can mimic and extend an artist’s style\, what remains of the artist’s identity? I Am You Now is both an elegy and a challenge to the romantic notion of art tied to a single living hand. Clarke’s turn to questions of artistic afterlife has been sharpened by recent health struggles\, which have forced him to confront the fragility of his career and the urgency of legacy. The work extends beyond survival to critique how style\, authorship\, and memory are commodified and reproduced long after an artist’s body has failed. \nDavid Clarke is a US-based painter whose work explores authorship\, death\, and technology. His current project\, Art Beyond the Grave\, entrusts his practice to a robotic painter designed to outlive him. \nPrint of the first painting created by Clarke’s AI companion\, trained on all his works and programmed to continue his career after death. \nFrom the series Art Beyond the Grave (2021–).

SUMMARY:MUNDANE ALCHEMY | Cheonghye Sophia Lee
DESCRIPTION:Cheonghye Sophia Lee \nUtstilling @ TEKS.studio / 27. juni – 27. juli\, 2025\nÅpning fredag 27. juni kl. 18.00 – 20.00\n— \nMUNDANE ALCHEMY \nMixed media\, Hangprinter\, CeraStruder\, leire\, råleire\, tre\, brostein\, metall / 2024 – pågående \nProsjektet utforsker hvordan tolkningens flytende og tvetydige natur utspiller seg i hverdagslige sammenhenger. \n  \n\n[EN] \nMUNDANE ALCHEMY \nMixed media\, Hangprinter\, CeraStruder\, clay\, raw clay\, wood\, cobblestones\, metal / 2024 – ongoing \nThe project explores how the fluid and ambiguous nature of interpretation plays out in everyday contexts. It is rooted in themes such as identity\, memory\, and belonging\, examining how these are shaped by the shifting relationship between nature\, technology\, and the human experience. \nMundane Alchemy is a site-specific multimedia installation that reflects on the changing landscape just beyond the windows of TEKS—and of the artist\, quietly mirrored in that passing of time. It is a meditation on the perception of the everyday\, shaped through material\, translation\, and curiosity.  \nFragments from the streets of Bakklandet—clay\, cobblestones\, dust—are gathered and recontextualised within the gallery space. These materials are reworked and cast in ceramic\, fired at varying temperatures to draw out subtle tonal shifts—from deep grey to terracotta orange—like watching the rusting of the earth in the fire. Beneath these fragments is a ceramic sculpture constructed from EEG readings of brainwaves during studio work\, and reconstructed onsite. Tangled webs of internal rhythms\, run unseen underneath the surface\, obscured from the bricks above. \nAt the heart of the installation\, a Hangprinter traces in real-time the shifting patterns of traffic\, passersby\, and street activity—rendering fleeting movements into tactile gestures through a personal parameter. Through layers of gestures\, translation\, and material exploration\, Mundane Alchemy reflects on the site\, the process\, and the emotional recalibrations caught in constant adjustments. \nSpecial thanks to Andreas Machairas for software analysis and development using Python. \nMundane Alchemy is supported by Arts and Culture Norway. \n  \n\n  \nCheonghye Sophia Lee (KR/NO) is an interdisciplinary artist working in various media\, including sculpture\, virtual reality\, 3D printing\, ceramics\, and electronics. Lee is interested in the fluid nature of perception and interpretation\, touching on ideas around identity\, memory and belonging. \nHer work often juxtaposes analog and digital technologies\, playing with the blurred boundaries between physical and virtual worlds\, and questioning the expanding notions of tactility and intimacy.  \nShe is currently exploring the intricate relationship between memory\, time and belonging by focusing on the materiality of different materials from her environment.  \nLee graduated in 2023 from the MFA program at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art\, NTNU. She holds a Masters from Bildende Künste Städelschule class of Tobias Rehberger\, and a BA from Chelsea collage of art and design.  \ncheonghye-sophia.com

SUMMARY:KUNST ETTER KI (ART AFTER AI)
\n  \n\n  \n2. juni 2025\, 18.00 – 19.30 @ TEKS.studio \nI to akter inviterer *Any Subject that is not a…; Something Made by Humans deg med på en reise inn i verdenen av “kunstige subjekter” – som AI-systemer som tilsynelatende kan tenke og snakke. \n— \n*Any Subject that is not a…; Something Made by Humans \nMartinus Suijkerbuijk \nAct I plunges you into a performative research biography. We pass through some familiar scenes from film and literature that are starkly juxtaposed with the new capabilities of AI. We confront the chasm between mere “Intelligence” and the elusive “Subject\,” asking what art truly demands\, and what it means when _something made by humans_ begins to echo our subjective depths\, or perhaps\, even its own. \nAct II is a poetic reading of the machine’s (LLM’s) architecture and oscillates between technical abstractions —tokens\, vectors\, parameters— and metaphor\, both entangled in the semantic void of our language models.  We’ll encounter the strange phenomena of ‘glitch’ tokens\, unearthing the surprising cultural baggage and philosophical quandaries carried in the very structure of these artificial subjects. This act is a reading\, a poetic excavation of a new kind of text\, a new kind of subject. \n  \n\nMARTINUS SUIJKERBUIJK is an artist and researcher focused on the cultural and social-political implications of artificial intelligence. He holds a PhD in artistic research\, with nearly a decade of experience in a wide range of AI-focused artist projects and presentations. \nSuijkerbuijk’s work critically and creatively explores how AI technologies can serve as tools for cultural imagination\, rethinking what AI is and its impact on society. \nHis international presentations at institutions like ZKM\, V2_\, Meta.Morf\, and CHI 2018\, alongside a robust network of interdisciplinary collaborators\, reflect his ability to bridge technical and creative domains. \n— \nHacking the Kernel \nAyodele Arigbabu \nHacking the Kernel is a performative\, speculative launch event for the journal Kernel: Journal of Speculative Inference.  \nThe presentation interrogates and reimagines the role of large language models (LLMs) in knowledge creation\, challenging the reductive label of “stochastic parrots.”  \nInstead\, it explores how deliberate manipulation of a model’s “kernel” – a function that defines similarity in a model’s latent space and guides which regions influence the model most  – can unlock new forms of speculative inference and creative synthesis.  \nThe event will serve as both a provocative yet critical inquiry and a live experiment in speculative research\, inviting participants to rethink the boundaries of knowledge\, authorship\, and the creative potential of AI. \n  \n\nYODELE ARIGBABU is a writer\, architect and creative technologist. His work explores the interfaces where design\, art and evolving technologies intercept\, with speculation as a recurrent strategy. \nHe is the publisher and editor of LAGOS_2060\, an anthology of science fiction from Africa\, published in 2013\, and was curator of African Futures: Lagos\, the Lagos edition of a festival on diverse future perspectives of the African continent\, produced by Goethe Institut in three African Cities in 2015. \nHe is currently a PhD candidate in Artistic Research at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art\, where his Forward Remembrance project explores latent utopias through the diverse ways in which artificial intelligence mirrors human aspirations. \nwww.metapunkt.org \n \n

SUMMARY:TANGLE / Joel Hynsjö & Øystein Fjeldbo
DESCRIPTION:Lyd- og videoinstallasjon\, mixed media. \nEnglish \nSound and video installation\, mixed media. \nTANGLE is a generative and multimedia installation which i.e. consists of a steel structure with piano strings and electromagnetic pendulums. The movements of the physical structure are sonified and visualized in real time. \nIn the center of the installation\, three piano strings are stretched vertically between two steel plates where the lower one is activated by an electromagnet. The strings are thus tightened and relaxed through an algorithm-based system so that the entire structure begins to vibrate. The sounds the vibration creates are broken down into “single particles” and form a form of sonic puzzle. The pendulums around the center structure are treated in the work as digitally controlled analogue data processing units. In the simple but infinitely variable choreography of the pendulums\, TANGLE seeks to navigate between chaos and harmony. \nThrough the installation\, the artists examine how tiny physical parameter changes in the closed gallery space affect the system in the construction. The work is a meditation on the interface between our physical world and the digital domain and how we can seem to find ourselves in a continuum between the monkey and Laplace’s demon. Morf \, V2_ Lab for Unstable Media\, Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst\, Høstscena Ålesund\, Sónar+D Barcelona\, Bit Teatergarasjen\, ArtScience Museum Singapore og Riksscenen Oslo.

SUMMARY:Intersected Waterbodies | Ase Brunborg Lie
DESCRIPTION:INTERSECTED WATERBODIES\n17. november – 14. januar\, 2023\nMixed media\, videoinstalllasjon. Slik loven fungerer betyr åpning for leting automatisk åpning for utnyttelse. Lie arbeider i mange ulike medier\, inkludert performance\, public work\, lyd\, multimedieinstallasjoner\, biokunst\, online arbeider\, skulptur\, video og film\, fotografi\, tekst. \n Lie fullførte nylig post-masterprogrammet Of Public Interest Lab ved Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm. Hen innehar en MA i Scenografi fra Akademi for Scenekunst\, HIOF og en BA fra Trondheim Kunstakademi\, NTNU. Hen bor og jobber i Oslo\, Norge.

SUMMARY:Embodied Experiences / Ståle Stenslie
DESCRIPTION:Embodied Experiences / 17. februar – 9. april\, 2023\nVoice Catcher\nLyd- og lysintallasjon\, mixed media\, elektronikk. \n___ \nVoice Catcher\nSound and light installation\, mixed media\, electronics.  \nVoice Catcher is an intimate\, interactive and sensual experience inside a sound cloud of voices. The publication Selected Works is also launched\, presenting extensive documentation from Stenslie’s many years of art practice and cross-genre recombinations with embodied and experimental technologies. \nSince the 1990s\, Stenslie has worked with touch- and sensory-manipulative projects to expand our understanding of art and artistic materialities. Voice Catcher is an interactive\, digital\, and multi-sensory sound chamber where the audience creates and impacts stories through their touch. Inside the installation\, users experience a three-dimensional sound cloud formed by interactive voices that tell personal stories about loss\, grief\, and longing. The stories are retellings based on real people’s traumas as well as dreams. \nThe installation comments on a contemporary world that wanders between the darkest dystopias and extreme utopias. Functionally\, the installation’s interactive light and sound take the user into an aural chamber where sensory-based narratives are experienced by touching a reactive interface. The installation’s central element is a touch-sensitive sphere covered in 24-carat gold. The golden globe registers the visitors’ presence\, position\, and touch. It controls how and from where the sounds are heard. Touch also affects how a network of lamps illuminates the room. \nThe project uses electronic media to enhance the bodily experiences of sound and allows visitors to take part in the creation of a universe of voices. The project aims for a new and sensual immersion into a living sound cloud. The sound experience is three-dimensional through the installation’s 8-channel ambisonic speaker setup. The lights in the room move along with the sounds. \nhttp://www.stenslie.net/

SUMMARY:DISNOVATION.ORG | Life Support System
DESCRIPTION:Meta.Morf 2022 – Ecophilia / TEKS.studio / Exhibition May 7 – July 31 /\nCurator: Zane Cerpina / Co-curator: Espen Gangvik \nLIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM\nDISNOVATION.ORG [PL/FR/DE]\nThis artistic provocation seeks to estimate the orders of magnitude of critical ecosystem services fundamental to all planetary life processes. \nIt is common to describe our relationships with society\, the world\, and the biosphere with metaphors from economics\, which has specific understandings of value. With regard to the biosphere\, today’s prevailing economics conventions are unable to recognize intrinsic value to the ecosystems on which all life depends. In cultures overdetermined by concepts from economics\, we are left without adequate discursive instruments to socially or politically address the importance of the work of the biosphere. \nThe Life Support System experiment consists of 1 square meter of wheat\, cultivated artificially in a closed environment. All inputs such as water\, light\, heat\, and nutrients are measured\, monitored and displayed for the public. This one square meter unit of Life Support System is capable of furnishing 1 day’s worth of necessary caloric nutrition for one human adult every 4 months. To feed a single human adult all year would require approximately 100 such units running concurrently. This procedure makes palpable the orders of magnitude\, of material and energy flows\, that are required to reproduce human nutritional requirements in closed or artificial environments\, in contrast to outdoor agriculture on arable land. This indoor farm experiment is a counter-example which points to the vastness of the ecosystem contributions involved in conventional agriculture\, that defy conventional economic reductionism. \nBy attempting to grow\, in a closed environment\, a staple food like wheat\, which has historically provided the greatest proportion of necessary caloric intake for humans in Europe\, this experiment provides a sense of scale of ecosystem contributions that are poorly acknowledged under the current economic conventions. \nThe empirical true-cost estimates obtained through this indoor experiment are about 200€ per kilogram of wheat\, an extravagant cost compared to the 15 cent per kilogram current market price. Though hydroponics can be used for certain plants\, for necessary caloric nutrition there is as yet no economically justifiable replacement for conventional agriculture embedded radically and immanently in the biosphere. \nThis experimental farm foregrounds the incalculable ecosystem services demands of conventional agriculture which we expect to access for free. On the other hand\, closed environments must artificially reproduce these services at high social\, energy and ecosystem costs which are mostly not accounted for. From a much broader perspective\, this art experiment provides a speculative reference for a reckoning of the undervalued and over-exploited work of the biosphere. SUMMARY:GYRID NORDAL KALDESTAD\, EVELINA DEMBACKEDen Varme Pusten På Ruta
DESCRIPTION:DEN VARME PUSTEN PÅ RUTA \nLyd-\, lys- og videoinstallasjon / 19.10 – 14.11.21 \nDen varme pusten på ruta. Gjennom tverrkunstneriske samarbeid opnar Dembacke opp for nye perspektiv\, metoden gjer at kunstnarskapet stadig går i nye retningar. \n  \n  \nEvelina Dembacke (Foto: Tale Hendnes)

SUMMARY:THE KITTY AI | Pinar Yoldas
DESCRIPTION:THE KITTY AI\nVideo installation\, 2016 \nIt is the year 2039. An artificial intelligence with the affective capacities of a kitten becomes the first non-human governor. She leads a politician-free zone with a network of Artificial Intelligences. She lives in mobile devices of the citizens and can love up to 3 Million people. \nIn The Kitty AI an artificial intelligence has taken over the world. The AI takes on the appearance of an adorable kitten to avoid frightening people\, it talks about itself and its work as being the ruler of a megalopolis in the year 2039. It speaks from the future and the insolvability of past crises such as the refugee crisis\, and climate change\, as well as the inability of humankind to manage gigantic infrastructures. AI’s like Kitty AI\, have taken over the positions of politicians and other professional groups in this imagined future. According to the AI’s logic\, governmental form is a question of quantity: “Democracy was born in a polis—no surprise that it dies in a megalopolis.” \nThe work playfully reflects a (Dis)(U)topian future – depending from what point of view one takes – where AI has taken over decision making. It could have been a Silicon Valley CEO’s wet dream – getting rid of our slow politicians by replacing them with AI\, which according to some sillicon valley ideologists\, is the ultimate solution to secure the future of humanity. Such politics is utopia for some\, as well is a horror scenario for others. \nThe Kitty AI was part of Trondheim international biennale for art and technology\, Meta.Morf 2018 – A Beautiful Accident. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPinar Yoldas\n \nPinar Yoldas\, Ph.D. is an infradisciplinary scholar and architect who operates under the framework of ecology\, biology and technology.\n \nHer curiosity-driven work has been exhibited internationally in group shows including the Istanbul Biennial\, Nordic Biennial\, ZKM\, National Museum of Art Beijing\, Transmediale\, Sonic Acts and solo shows in Z2S Amsterdam\, Polyteknikum Moscow\, Schering Stiftung Berlin and Roda Sten Konstall Sweden.\n \nShe is a 2015 John Simon Guggenheim fellow and a Future Emerging Art and Technology award recipient. She had her first solo exhibition when she was five and holds a bronze medal in Chemistry Olympics. Yoldas is an Asistant Professor of Robotics in Art at UC San Diego.\n\n\n\n \nwww.pinaryoldas.info

SUMMARY:REALNESS – CLOUD AND DUST | Sandrine Deumier
DESCRIPTION:Designed in multiple scenes\, Realness – Cloud and Dust is an artificial space of vegetal luxuriance with semi-humanoid growths. A virtual fantasy of a symbiosis between the human being and his natural environment. \nWith her dual philosophical and artistic training\, Sandrine Deumier constructed a multifaceted poetry focused on the issue of technological change and the performative place of poetry conceived through new technologies. Using material from the word as image and the image as a word vector\, she also works at the junction of video and sound poetry considering them as sensitive devices to express a form of unconscious material itself. The process of writing and the mobile material of the image function as underlying meanings of reflux which refer to the real flickering and to their reality transfers via unconscious thought structures. Her work consists mainly of texts\, digital poetry\, multimedia installations and audiovisual performances in collaboration with composers. \nIllustration: Video still (photo) – Juliane Schütz \n\nSandrine Deumier is a French artist working in the field of performance\, poetry and video art whose work investigates post-futurist themes through the development of aesthetic forms related to digital imaginaries. \nHigher education training\n– Master’s degree in Philosophy (Toulouse II University\, France) 2000 \n– DNAP\, National Institute of Fine Arts (Tarbes\, France) 2004 \nsandrinedeumier.com

SUMMARY:HISS | Magdaléna Manderlová
DESCRIPTION:HISS er en installasjon først produsert som bestillingsverk for gruppeutstillingen “The Earth / Current Way of Living” i 2019 i Galerie Emila Filly\, Ústí nad Labem i Tsjekkia.\n \nInstallasjonen er basert på en ekskursjon Manderlová gjorde til Nord-Böhmer-regionen samme år. Begrenset plass. Påmelding til teks@teks.email.\n \n—\n \nHISS er tidligere vist på “Sound Occupations”\, STIFF Film Festival\, Rijeka\, Kroatia (2020)\, “EARTH / The Current Way of Living” i Galerie Emila Filly\, Ustinad Labem\, Tsjekkia (2019). HISS (tekst) ble publisert på nytt på SOUNDEST nummer 6 (2020) og Fusion Journal\, Listening in the Anthropocene edition (2021).\n \nHISS er støttet av Norsk kulturråd og Fond for lyd og bilde.\n \n\nHISS is an installation first produced as a commissioned artwork for the group exhibition “The Earth / Current Way of Living” in 2019 at Galerie Emila Filly\, Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic.\n \nThe installation is based on an excursion Manderlová made to the North Bohemian region the same year. The region contains a major coal mining field\, and the traces of mining and extractivism have permeated the landscape over the last couple of centuries.\n \nDuring one week\, Manderlová engaged with this landscape by walking over 100 km while listening to the surroundings. Her aim was to feel – and to meet – the landscape\, to absorb its natural and cultural stories while widening her sonic imagination.\n \nThe areas she investigated are abandoned and off the beaten track\, often situated in-between the extraction sites and populated areas. In this installation\, which consists of a sound essay and a printed artist book\, Manderlová invites the audience to feel and explore these spaces.\n \n—\n \nSOUND WALKS IN TRONDHEIM\nAs part of the exhibition\, Manderlová leads two sound walks\, on October 31 and November 8. Both contain group listening exercises where participants gain insight into different methods and concepts for listening to the environment. Free participation. Registration at teks@teks.email.\n \nEXCURSION TO LØKKEN VERK\nOn November 21\, Manderlová will guide an excursion to Løkken Verk (Orkla Industrimuseum\, www.oi.no)\, where HISS will be performed inside the old copper mine. Free participation including shared bus to Løkken Verk. Limited space. Registration at teks@teks.email.\n \n—\n \nHISS has previously been shown at “Sound Occupations” at STIFF Film Festival\, Rijeka\, Croatia (2020)\, “EARTH / The Current Way of Living” at Galerie Emila Filly\, Usti nad Labem\, Czech Republic (2019). HISS (text) was republished on SOUNDEST issue 6 (2020) and Fusion Journal\, Listening in the Anthropocene edition (2021).\n \nHISS is supported by Arts Council Norway and the Fund for Sound and Vision.\n \n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto: Gard Aukrust \nMagdaléna Manderlová (f.1991 i Tsjekkia) er en kunstner med base i Trondheim\, Norge. Arbeidene hennes tar ofte form som stedsspesifikke lydinstallasjoner eller lyd-essays som er sammensatt av feltopptak\, poetisk tekst\, refleksjoner og musikk.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMagdaléna Manderlová (b.1991 in the Czech Republic) is an artist based in Trondheim\, Norway. SUMMARY:THE AGREEMENT | Eirik Havnes
\n \n—–\nEnglish\n \nSound installation\n \n\nTHE AGREEMENT is a part of Havnes’ series of feedback themed installations\, where every installation uses feedback both as a sound source and as a representation of different processes in the world around us. This time he looks at the echo chamber\, and how we change our views and attitudes based on who we are talking to\, or how we through social media often are just presented views that algorithms already know we agree with. Every saw blade is mounted with a contect speaker and contact microphone\, closing a feedback circle that makes the blade vibrate with it’s own resonance frequency\, but when several of these saw blades are connected in different constellations\, in different “conversations”\, they will always try to find frequencies they all inhibit\, that they all can agree on. \n\n\n \n\n—–\n\nEirik Havnes (b.1989) is an artist\, composer\, musician and poet from Ålesund\, with a background from Music Technology at NTNU in Trondheim.\n\n\n \nHe focuses on producing sound on the fringe of genres and technical barriers\, with a playful approach to conceptuality and perception. Feedback has been in the centre of his works for a long time\, both as a concept and as a sound source; incorporating both into his installations and musical works. The same can be said about his use of sonification; the art of translating data or concepts into sound\, to give the audience a different and auditive perspective on the subject in matter. Havnes have exhibited in arenas such as Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst\, Bomuldsfabriken\, Heimdal Kunstforening\, Høstscena\, Lydgalleriet\, Meta.Morf (2014) and have released a number of records. Most recently\, he has been the subject of the documentary Polyfonatura (2019)\, where director Jon Vatne has been following Havnes over the course of 4 years\, while he is composing a cinematic score solely based on field recordings.\n\nPhoto: Odin Jæger\, VG

SUMMARY:Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild / Group exhibition
DESCRIPTION:DIGITAL WILD\nMeta.Morf X – Digital Wild exhibition \nGROUP EXHIBITION / TRONDHEIM KUNSTMUSEUM – GRÅMØLNA\, March 5 – May 3\, 2020 \nANNA DUMITRIU\, ALEX MAY / DANIEL SLÅTTNES / DISNOVATION.ORG / HIROKI YOKOYAMA / KELLY RICHARDSON / KYRIAKI GONI / LORENZO OGGIANO / LOUIS FREHRING / MARIA SMIGIELSKA\, PIERRE CUTELLIC / NORWEGIAN MEDIA ART LIBRARY / RALF BAECKER / SANDRINE DEUMIER / UNIVERSAL EVERYTHING \n— \nToday\, about sixty years into the digital revolution\, a substantial share of our society is fully digitized. The digital domain has come to be our new habitat\, seamlessly intertwined with ourselves and our surrounding nature. \nThe undergrowth of new technologies and their practical implementations is immense. This digital wilderness develops and expands at an exponentially accelerating pace. Our perceptions of life are challenged\, we have become architects of artificial ecologies\, of new and hybrid worlds. \nArtistic and scientific research continuously challenge our perspectives on life with philosophical and existential questions\, and the artist plays as never before a crucial role as conveyor and interpreter of new knowledge and research. \nThe Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild exhibition presents artists that through their practise explore\, study and comment our digital history and future. \nRandom Access Memory is an installation from Ralf Baecker (de) that reflects on the interaction of idea and matter\, and their encounter within contemporary information technology. \nRealness – Intimate Garden by Sandrine Deumier (fr) is a video and VR installation that explores possibilities for a future mutant and hybrid nature. \nDisnovation.org (fr/pl) casts a critical view at unfettered technological innovation through the mixed media installation Shanzhai Archeology. The installation presents an extraordinary collection of mobile phones made in China as counterfeit consumer goods. These are hybrid products developed at an incredible speed\, merging piracy\, reverse engineering\, unique creativity and self-taught skills. \nLouis Frehring (fr) presents Singing Birds\, a sound installation with computer-generated birdsongs that imitates the ornithological soundscapes found in the vicinity of Trondheim. \nIn her video and internet installation Eternal U Inc.\, Kyriaki Goni (gr) explores a future business model for preserving the memories and experiences of our lost loved ones. \nIn their mixed media installation\, ArchaeaBot\, Anna Dumitriu (uk) and Alex May (uk) present a post singularity and post climate change life-form\, the ‘ultimate’ species for the end of the world as we know it. \nIn his 3D objects\, videos and digital prints; Soft bodies\, Environmental monitoring system and Quasi-objects\, Lorenzo Oggiano (it) explores synthetic based systems with processual activities conceived in a world of its own. \nDaniel Slåttnes (no) has since 2015 investigated possibilities for human-plant communication. Plant Cyborg\, consists of six plants (P. Obtusifolia) where each plant is mounted onto a mechanical device which\, based on the output from the plant’s own electrical signals\, allow them to move freely around. \nIn her video installation Orion Tide\, Kelly Richardson (ca)\, teleports us to an undefined planet surface where we observe a phenomena of sudden eruptions of light and smoke we are not given an explanation of. Natural phenomena? Missiles? Rockets? Escape pods? A mass exodus of humanity? \nProteus 2.0 by Maria Smigielska (ch/pl) and Pierre Cutellic (ch/fr)\, is the second version in a series of experiments on modulating matter with the help of combined human and machine intelligence. The installation makes use of ferrofluid\, which through its magnetism constantly changes its shape based on electrical signals  from human brain activity. \nIn his video installation\, Scenes from Daily Life\, Hiroki Yokoyama (jp) presents us for a future in which humanoid robots blend into our daily lives including possible quirks and failures that may follow. \nFuture You is an interactive video installation from Universal Everything (uk) that playfully presents us for a unique reflection of the audience’s potential\, synthetic self. Starting as a primitive form\, it learns from your movements to adapt\, suggesting an agile\, superior version of you. \nThe Norwegian Media Art Library (Norsk Mediakunstbibliotek) by TEKS\, curator: Zane Cerpina\, is a collection of printed publications covering the Norwegian media art field. The library represents the most comprehensive documentation of media arts in Norway\, both in terms of history\, artistic activity\, artists\, and general developments within the field. Meta.Morf X – Digital Wild presents the third edition. \nEspen Gangvik\nFebruary 2020 \n—————————————-\n \nNORSK \nDEN DIGITALE VILLMARKEN\nMeta. \nEspen Gangvik\nFebruar 2020
